I froze and wondered: “Wait, she’s having a dream right now?” One of them rubbed her eyes and said Tengo un sueño, emphasizing the un (“a”). I learned that when I was out at night with friends. There is no other way to differentiate between the two meanings than paying attention to the context, and sometimes tone, in which the word is used.
